They look so good, but, unfortunately I made them today and they taste far too yeasty. I followed your recipe to the letter so I wonder what went wrong?

Ooooops. I forgot to say I used buttermilk instead of whole milk. Why? I only had semi-skimmed milk and as I use buttermilk in my Brown soda bread I thought why not.

Hi Julie. I made these this afternoon. As I said previously I have been looking for the perfect roll. I think I have found it. A definite keeper. My rolls were always doughy and heavy. These are so soft light and airy. So perfect. My eyebrows rose a little at the rising times but I followed it to the letter. Wonderful. The only difference I made was to do half and half wholemeal and white flour. I also had to add a cup more flour but that was probably due to climatic conditions being somewhat different in Ireland :).
Thank you. This will go in my recipe book to be passed to my grandaughter. I will be making these often.

um, these look delish. however, how does one SAY theater? not thee-AY-ter? is the A silent? the T? (just kidding.)
But I say theeAYter ya'll. It's that place I can't afford to go to anymore. Maybe in 30 years when I get the senior discount.

Wow, these look great! Thanks for the recipe. I might just have to conquer my fear of yeast and try them out.

By the way, I noticed from your earlier posts that you're a Duke alum - me too! :)

    Hi Rhyleysgranny,

Thank you for your comment. I just use plain old all-purpose flour for the rolls, and it works wonderfully.

Hi Julie Your rolls look lovely I saw them on Foodgawker. I am always looking for good recipes for rolls. I note going through various American blogs plain/cake flour is used. Do you use this or is it bread flour you have used?
